Damali A.

My name is Damali and am nine years old.  I am proud of myself because I just started school this year. We are three children in our family. When I was younger, I recall how unbearable life was with my father being an alcoholic and beating my mother frequently. Because of this, my parents separated and my mother began life as a single mother. These unfortunate circumstances made it difficult for me to go to school with my peers and forced me to stay home because we couldn't afford the school fees. I stayed home to help my mother with farming so that we could survive.  I love my mother so much. She always looks after us and wants the best for us. In the future, I hope to become a teacher so that I can help many children to learn new things. In my free time, I enjoy rope skipping with my friends.
